This park is simply amazing. Plentiful parking and picnicking areas. The nature Center is very nice and the watercraft rentals are awesome! Reasonably priced and great staff to help get you launched. We bring our own paddle boards and enjoy the beautiful clean lake for a NULL day use fee. You can rent pavilions for your picnics and parties and that’s a little pricey but nice to have the option.
Little Seneca Lake is a 505-acre man-made reservoir nestled in Black Hill Regional Park, completed in 1984 as part of the region’s emergency water supply system . It holds approximately 4.5 billion gallons of water, with an average depth of ~24.7 ft and maximum depth reaching 68 ft—making it the deepest lake in Montgomery County .
The lake’s primary purpose is water supply reliability, having been tapped only once—during the 1999 drought—but it also provides rich recreational offerings .
Fishing is a major draw: species include largemouth bass, tiger muskies, channel catfish, bluegill, perch, crappie, and occasionally others. Anglers can fish year-round from shore, and certain summer nights are designated for night fishing by boat—complete with required lighting regulations and license checks .
Boat rentals are available seasonally (typically May–September) at the Black Hill Boats facility—inclusive of kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, SUPs, and rowboats. Highly recommend this beautiful scenic park. I enjoy walking on the paths! I don’t own a dog but I see a lot of fellow walkers with their pooches. Take a walk, or bike ride you will be so glad you did!!
Always nice,relaxing moments to walk around the nature. So many trails to choose from, along the creek, lake ,ferns, big tree. 2 playground to choose from. Watch bird singing by nature center. Always going back to charge my nature power.
Black Hill is a fresh water reservoir lake in Clarksburg MD. Great place for a picnic, nature walk or “no gas motor” water activity. Stunning and beautiful, loved by kayakers and paddle boarders alike.
