Dogtopia of Birmingham

The team at Dogtopia (Birmingham), especially Ashley & Michael, are spectacular! All I have to say is “Dogtopia” and our dog Winston perks up and runs to the door bc he enjoys it so much. From the minute we get there he’s greeted with lots of hellos and scratches and affection and that makes us feel completely at ease leaving Winston for a day or a weekend. This is 100% why I’ve always recommended this particular location as THE place for dog daycare/boarding. We appreciate being able to check in on him with the cameras and grooming options as well. We LOVE the original Dogtopia Birmingham team (that’s who we see when we drop off/pick up) who have been there for the 6 yrs we’ve been boarding and would probably have to follow them if they ever left Dogtopia. I recently heard that Dogtopia was sold and now has a corporate owner with regional and district managers which I sincerely hope does not change the structure of the locations and definitely not the Birmingham location (I’m speaking directly to you management). Thanks from Winston and the whole family to Ashley, Michael, and the entire staff at Dogtopia Birmingham for all you do for dogs and their families.

Seriously love this place, and so does my dog. Love the split between playtime and rest time at daycare, my dog is always excited to come back! Also, love the cameras so I can check in on her.

Used to take my dog here. Would never do so again. The staff have been great in my experience. The issue is everything is so corporate. Tried setting up an initial visit for my second dog and I have a corporate call center calling me and not the location. A very unnecessary later for a dog daycare.

I definitely recommend Dogtopia for daycare and boarding. I have 2 dogs with very different personalities and just had them boarded for 4 days here. We were not regulars so I was a little concerned about how well they would fare. One of my dogs is high energy and loves to play, the other prefers to keep to herself spending most of her time in the periphery.

At Dogtopia, being able to check in on them in real time through the webcams definitely made me feel comfortable, and confident enough to leave a review about my experience. I spent an ungodly amount of time watching that footage and saw no dog fighting, improper behavior by the staff, or anything that would make me question my pets’ safety. Dogtopia kept my dogs safe and provided them with as much stability as they could have while away, with regular meal, play, nap, and sleep times. When dogs got a little too rambunctious during play they would give them some time to settle down in the crate before letting them rejoin the pack. From what I saw, the workers in the room are even tempered people who were great at deescalating situations before poor behaviors were exhibited. Both my dogs got the different types of stimulation they needed, my one by actively playing with the other pups and my other by keeping to herself while doing some dog watching from the sidelines. She is also quite theatrical and I saw her whining at the exit door a few times – which is not unlike some of her behavior at home – but mostly seemed engaged in watching other dogs play. I think the perk of having them be boarded versus a dog sitter at home was that they had so many distractions that they didn’t have time to mope around.

Of course leaving your dog is hardly ever ideal, but at Dogtopia my dogs were kept safe and entertained. I picked them up the same way I dropped them off, maybe more smelly and tired but that’s the cost of a good time for them. Definitely recommend giving them a try!
