Located in the heart of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Monocacy Park is a scenic and historic destination known for its stonework, picturesque waterfall, and peaceful woodland setting. Although not an official dog park, it is a popular spot for pet owners seeking pet-friendly trails and a tranquil environment for dog walking. The park features shaded nature trails, well-marked paths along Monocacy Creek, and lots of opportunities to spot wildlife, making it ideal for dog-friendly hiking in the Lehigh Valley.
The park offers free parking, several pavilions, and plenty of trees providing ample shade for both dogs and owners. Families can enjoy the playground, grassy fields, and scenic picnic spots. Monocacy Park stands out as a relaxing, clean, and inviting location for walking with dogs close to town, providing easy access to hiking trails and beautiful views year-round.
This park is sure to impress you with its: stonework, rentable pavilions, scenic trails, majestic beauty, & focal point waterfall! The Nature Trail across the street is also a good, relatively flat, & mostly clean hiking trail for nature lovers. There is a significant amount of graffiti under the pavilions & some trash throughout the park which is why I gave it 4 stars. Either way it is a beautiful park through & through! It is also the home to The Illick’s Grist Mill which I don’t believe is open for tours however, it is a timeless piece of architecture resonating of that era that people may or may not admire.
Ive been coming here ever since I was a kid. My family spent summer picnics here and my cousin and I would make home made floats and float down the waterfall and through the creek. You can’t do that anymore unfortunately. However this is my sanctuary a place where I can meditate and clear my mind. I love coming here and just enjoying the sound of nature.
If you want to unwind and talk a brisk walk this is your spot. It has an age old, time capsule deep feel to this place. I dislike the traffic that passes by the bridge, other than that it is easy access and free parking across from the park.
Gorgeous, hidden gem. It’s shady and quaint. The stone walls and structures are beautiful and walking along the water is so relaxing. What a great spot for a picnic!
Monocacy Park is a nice park along Monocacy creek and at the site of an old mill. If you like the sight and sound of flowing water then this is a nice place to visit. There are plenty of trees for shade. And there is Amur honeysuckle all over the place. On the other side of the road a trail continues along the creek for quite a distance. It is a dirt trail that was muddy in places due to the recent rains. We only walked a short distance along the trail before turning back. The trail is shaded by trees with lots of Amur honeysuckle lining the trail. Definitely a cool place to visit on warm or hot sunny days.
