Dighton Rock State Park offers a quiet, small park experience with an interesting museum featuring local history and petroglyphs on a large rock. The park includes accessible entrances and parking, picnic tables, public restrooms (porta-johns), hiking trails suitable for kids, and lovely views of the water. It allows dogs and is good for picnics and family visits. However, the trails are relatively short, paths may be under-maintained, and there have been some concerns noted about the park environment and safety.

Dirty with litter. Paths are not kept up and they are boring. Lots of creeps in cars just sitting in the parking lot. Encountered several older men just standing together along the paths. I would not advice a decent person or a family to go here. Full of creepy 50- 70 year old men walking and sitting in cars in the parking lot. I felt very uncomfortable even with my large dog with me. And there is nothing for kids here at all.

Museum is often locked even when park ranger is there. Unless you search him up to unlock it, door isn’t open to view exhibit that has not been updated or refreshed in years. Why state bothers to keep this open is beyond me. Trails are lands taken by state from local families who had cottages along water – in this day and age of heralding what’s wrong why hasn’t anyone noticed this? As for cemetery, state doesn’t acknowledge multiple years of satanic worship that went on in one of the cottage ruins … where they sacrificed animals. State fortunately knocked that building down but years too late. And yes, there are lots of people that hang around in cars – why?

Love Dighton Rock State Park! Its a small, quiet park with an awesome museum full of local history. The drive to the park is itself a cute jaunt off the highway. Once you drive into the park and follow the road to the end, you have a beautiful, spacious area with benches, bbq pits, and a gorgeous view of the water. Hike around the cleared trails for a shady adventure or go into the museum for a well researched and in depth discovery of the Dighton Rock, full of carvings and pictogram left by ancient explorers. We took out dog niece around the park and it was so pleasant. If you’re local and want a secluded place to ride your bike to or to have a cookout, this State Park is awesome. Just make sure you use the bathroom at home, as they only provide porta-johns on site.

Dighton Rock State Park was a truly bizarre experience made better by Joe the park ranger. A large rock covered in petroglyphs sits inside a tiny museum building on the edge of the Taunton River. The signage inside the museum told the convoluted tale of European historians and linguists attempting to decipher the language on the rock with attempts made by English, Scandinavian, and Portuguese translators each with their own political agenda.

More to the park then just the awesome museums. While the trails are relatively short if you retrace and take multiple routes you can get in a great hike while seeing some really interesting sites. Massachusetts state parks really are wicked pissah!!😁
