🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Cleveland Lake Regional Park offers scenic, pet-friendly trails ideal for dog walking, jogging, and outdoor adventures with your pup. Located in Belton, MO, this park is popular for its beautiful lake views, tranquil setting, and multi-use paths. Here, pets and their owners can enjoy dog-friendly hiking and peaceful strolls along the water while also sharing the space with other outdoor enthusiasts such as bikers and disc golfers.
Although there is no designated fenced dog area, the park is loved by many dog owners for its open spaces and well-kept paths. Amenities include parking areas and natural shade, though visitors should bring their own dog poop bags, as there are only a few trash cans and no waste stations provided along the trail. Restrooms are limited to a portable toilet on site. Weekends may be busier, especially with the increased use for disc golf, so early-morning visits are often quieter and more enjoyable for dogs and owners alike.
This trip in to power walk was very disappointing. P&R has ripped out more trees and vegetation. A path along the creek is now gone. Looks like to continue the expansion of the disc course. City funds going to support Kansans.
This Park will soon be transitioned to a disc park and families and walkers will need to find some place else.
Don’t believe me?
Last weekend while I power walked the path on the south side of the lake at the hairpin turn I noticed P&R place a goal back at the point between the path and the water. A definite problem increasing tension between walkers, bikers and families trying to use the park and not the disc course (not that’s funny because that’s what the city has created discourse).
As I walked the path I saw disc players throw their final disc which landed well south of me. The players had already started walking towards the 16th goal. As I rounded the hair pin turn a player began bad mouthing a cursing walkers crossing the disc course. I’m sure to be a bully and verbally threatening so I wouldn’t come back.
I kept walking now with the players behind me. More cursing was directed at people and walkers getting in the way, but other than them I was the other person there. I said nothing continuing my walk as they continued their verbal abuse.
A few minutes later as I cooled down with a drink leaning on my car parked in the circle I saw a mom and her 3 little girls with a blanket and snacks enjoying the sun. They were along the water in the area of goal 11, north side of the lake. Definitely not in the way of the disc being thrown.
I watched as a disc player, after throwing his disc well well clear of where this family was cross over the cove using the path and made a beeline towards this mom. The kids thank goodness we’re off roller blading and exploring. The disc player tells the mom she needs to move and get off the disc course, and I think he said, if you know what’s good for you. Don’t quote me on the last park but I’m sure I’m not far off.
P&R must know I won’t take another verbal assault from these out of state people. I can almost bet Kansas probably hasn’t put a dime into this park.
That aside, today, a disc player couldn’t wait a minute until I got out of the way. I typically walk at 3.5 to 4.3mph. A disc came into my right field of vision within a foot from blindsiding me. Knowingly launching a disc and hitting me I would seen that as an assault.
The city really will not like the results that are going to occur with families, walkers, bikers and people fishing being assaulted by these aggressive disc players.
We all vote these days.
Picturesque park that is great for disc golf, fishing, trail skating and bikes. One portable stall is the only restroom. Bring your own bags for dogs, not many trashcans out either for litter.
Love walking here with my dog! The only thing I would like is more trash cans. There is one trash can half a mile into your walk and then that’s it. I bring my own dog poop bags but just wish I didn’t have to carry it on my walk with me.
I love walking my dog here in the mornings
Had a great experience walking my dog at Cleveland Lake Regional Park. The park was clean, even on a weekend, and the view of the lake was absolutely beautiful. It’s a peaceful and scenic spot—perfect for a walk with your pet or spending time with family. Loved it and will definitely be back!
