FAQ for Northwind Kennels in Bedford New York:
I was really nervous to board my dog at a kennel, worried that the big, anxious, slow to trust humans and not pet friendly mush would be triggered from his shelter days. All those nerves dissipated once I met Penny and the staff at Northwind Kennels. She immediately recognized my dogs fear and anxiety at drop off, and met him where he was the entire staff came from a place of understanding Lex’s back story and answered all questions I had. He didn’t even need his tranquilizer meds, a clear sign that he felt safe and cared for. I picked him up today, happy to see a wagging tail and goofy pittie smile and that he bonded with Penny. I’d definitely board Lex here again if the need arises.
Penny and her staff are my saving grace. I’m going through a horrible time right now where I can’t have my boys with me, and instead of surrendering them; my boys are being taken care of by miss penny and her efficient staff. They respond extremely quickly, there is always one or two people in the office and a handful throughout taking care of the animals. We’re so blessed to have you in our community. Youve given your animals a second or third chance at life and you do it graciously. Could never repay this team 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Penny is one of the hardest working, selfless people I have ever met. Her dedication to animals is unmatched. I have boarded my dogs there over a span of 2 decades. They are always well taken care of and happy thanks to her and her wonderful staff. Thank you!
Our little rascal Sammy, wandered from our property this morning. He was picked up by a concerned neighbor who brought him to the police station, who called the Northwind Kennel to pick him up. Luckily, after a bit of panic, we saw his pic posted on Facebook and were able to track him down. We called Northwind, and they couldn’t have been nicer! They sssured us that Sammy was in a great mood and would be well taken care of until we were able to get there. When we arrived, he was in the front with the staff having a great time! They were so lovely! We really appreciated their warmth and humor on an emotionally challenging afternoon. Thank you Northwind!!!!
Northwind Kennels, Penny and team are so wonderful, loving and caring to all animals, and we are so thankful for their attention and love for our pup Hennessy. Hennessy was sheltered by Northwind for 3 years when a foster or adoptive family could not be found, and now we take him back for boarding when we are out of town. He is not nervous about going back, and loves the staff and volunteers there! They love Hennessy like their own. In fact, most recently when I went to pick Hen up from NWK, I saw one of their team members who recognized me, and told me he had just been hanging out with Hennessy and had taken him outside to relax for a bit, he was sitting down in the yard relaxing with another dog when he told me that. With over 100 dogs at anytime, it means so much to me that they give the animals individual attention and care. Not just walks, but taking the time to relax and enjoy the outdoors together. It really made me feel so happy to know Hennessy had that one on one time with this particular person (who I know Hen loves)! The money you donate to or spend at Northwind helps rescue and shelter more animals! When I was last there, Penny had taken in kittens that someone had dumped, and was caring for them out of the kindness of her heart, all while talking through the care and attention she would give someone’s pet who was being boarded for the first time. You can also specify any dietary restrictions, vitamins, special needs and even if you would like the animal to get a bath before they come home.We adopted Hennessy via Pound Hounds Res-Q, but Penny and Northwind had been housing Hen for 3 years to keep him off the kill list until someone could adopt him. The team, including James and Steve, allowed us to stop by in the weeks preceding the adoption to meet Hennessy (and so they could vet us to make sure we were the right family). We are so thankful for the love, attention, training, and veterinary care our dog received in the years before we met him.We included photos from our adoption day, hikes in the woods, the front bench where Hennessy liked to sit and people watch, and some kisses he was giving James who helps to take care of Hennessy when we are gone and when Hen was living there.Thank you to Northwind, Penny and team!
