Located in the beautiful Berkshires, Esau’s Heel Trail offers scenic, dog-friendly hiking just outside Becket, MA. This peaceful and relatively new trail features a flat, easy-to-navigate path with a loop section through lovely wooded areas. Dog owners will love the tranquil atmosphere, varied terrain, and opportunity for both people and pets to enjoy nature together on a well-marked loop hike. The trail is popular for birdwatching, easy walking, and exploring with dogs in a natural, forested setting—a perfect pet-friendly trail for families.
Dogs are welcome on Esau’s Heel Trail, but owners should be mindful of leash etiquette, as the trail is shared with hikers and families. The area is not fenced, so dogs should remain under control at all times. While there’s parking available, visitors have noted that the parking area and parts of the trail may have waste or debris, so plan accordingly. Overall, this is a great option for those seeking accessible, dog-friendly outdoor activities in Becket, Massachusetts, and the surrounding Berkshires region.
We love this quiet and serene trail!
Pleasant, easy, 45 minute walk thru lovely wooded areas.
Parking area is being used as a bathroom…. Human feces and dog feces on trail and around parking area. Be careful where you step! Unleashed dogs will roll in the human feces and possibly ruin this hike….or the ride home at least. Parking lot had several needles and condoms on the ground… appeared to have been previously used!
This is a very easy walk in, walk out hike, down what was likely a roughed out road for a housing development that didn’t materialize. For the most part it’s a straight, flat walk, with a couple of seasonally wet areas that have accommodations to get over those areas.
At the very end,you have the option to turn around and walk back out, or take a small approximately .3-.4 Mi loop Trail through some wooded areas that have a little bit of elevation gain and loss.
A very family-friendly, easy hike for most people.
This is a relatively new trail that was opened within about the past year, and it’s nice to have more preserved space for everybody to enjoy.
