If you’re searching for scenic, pet-friendly trails in Barre, Massachusetts, the Mass Central Rail Trail is a local gem stretching from Northampton to Boston. This partially developed rail trail offers a tranquil and naturally beautiful escape, perfect for dog walking, biking, and family outings. With over 100 miles of smooth, well-maintained paths and multiple entry points, you and your four-legged friend can explore new sections each visit.
Owners rave about the trail’s comfortable passing width, making it an excellent choice for dog-friendly hiking in Barre. Multiple rest areas along the route—some with bridges and picturesque spots—provide plenty of opportunities to pause, enjoy the scenery, and refresh after a walk. While the trail may have a few hills and curves, it’s accessible for most walkers and bikers, and there are even swimming spots to cool off on hot days.
I have not yet hiked or ridden a bike on the trail yet. This entire area is beautiful from a natural stand point from the road. Near this bridge are rest areas where you can enjoy the foliage and wildlife while taking a break from driving on Rt 122.

It’s one of my favorite trails to ride in the summertime around the city it’s about 8 Miles one way smooth and I don’t run into too many problems. Though one time my friend ran over a fishing hook and it ruined our ride especially since it was the first time I got him out on a bike out there. Other than that one time this is a great Trail. Depending on which way you come it’s a slight uphill to downhill or slight downhill to uphill
