Great stop for anyone traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway! There’s tons of room to get out and explore – access to trails (Craggy Gardens Trail and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail), bathrooms, and plenty of picnic tables to enjoy a bite or take a rest. Wonderful place to picnic and hike. The parking is plentiful and roads up there are easy to drive. There are restrooms there. The hiking trail connects to the craggy visitor center, it also cconnects to the mountain to sea trail, so you can hike as long as you want to. The hike from the picnic area parking lot to the pavilion is steep so you can get a good work out in. The views are rewarding. Great gateway to hiking and great views.
Had a great time. Took 1 star off only because I wish the trails we’re more clearly marked. I walked from the Craggy Picnic area and we didn’t see signs until we had already walked about a mile (counting where we walked a dead end trail). I loved the area and views! I really love the little garden area. Would love to come back and hike all the way to Douglas Falls!
It’s a lovely picnic space with beautiful views! You can choose a seat in the woods, or out on the hill! On a hot weekend in town, it’s a great get away because it’s usually a few degrees cooler up here. There are trails to take that begin from the parking lot and head to the Craggy Gardens visitor center. A good family destination for an afternoon!
