The Bar Harbor Shore Path is a beloved gem for both locals and visitors seeking a dog-friendly adventure along the scenic coastline of Bar Harbor, Maine. This easy, well-maintained trail begins right in downtown Bar Harbor and offers breathtaking ocean views, a cool Atlantic breeze, and a tranquil coastal atmosphere. The path is renowned for its access to pet-friendly trails and allows you and your four-legged friend to enjoy natural wonders like the famous Balancing Rock and views of nearby islands.
What makes the Bar Harbor Shore Path especially appealing to dog owners is its accessibility and convenience—paid parking lots and metered parking are nearby, while public restrooms and shops within walking distance add to the comfort of your visit. Although not a traditional fenced dog park, leashed dogs are welcome to stroll alongside their owners, making it one of the best spots in Bar Harbor for dog-friendly hiking and seaside walks.
Gorgeous area highlighted by the amazing Bar Harbor Shore Path. Enjoy the park and the many great shops and restaurants, but the star of this area is the park and this path!
Consider supporting the rehabilitation of the path south of Grant Park that has been destroyed by recent storms. Unfortunately the path is closed past the park due to this erosion. Go as far as you can though, Balanced Rock…very much worth it!
Beautiful place to visit, plenty of places to eat and gift shops
The Bar Harbor Shore Path is simple and perfect. Breeze off the Atlantic, a sky so blue it feels infinite, and a cruise ship drifting slowly toward the horizon like punctuation at the end of a quiet sentence. Time loosens here.
– easy, well maintained trail along the coast of Bar Harbor
– Lots of food and accessible bathrooms by the fire station
– parking is paid by meter or there are several lots but they fill up quick
Such a pretty path to walk on. It starts right at downtown Bar Harbor and offers beautiful views of the ocean and the nearby islands. I loved seeing the balancing rock and reading about its history. This is an out and back path or you can exit at the end and walk through the downtown area.
