Lovely lake with a pretty nature trail!

Beautiful views of the lake from the parking lot and the Purple Martin’s nesting at the edge of the lake. Rather than walk out on the docks with all of the birders and their binoculars, we chose to hike the trail around the lake, thinking there would be some beautiful views from the backside. To our surprise, the over 2 mile hike revealed only woods at this time of year and not one view of the lake. I imagine in the fall or winter you would have plenty of views, but in Midsummer the very rocky and muddy trail only crosses small streams with wooden bridges.

With high humidity after a few days of rain, the bugs were out in force. You do see an abundance of mushrooms and salamanders. While we didn’t see a lot of birds, we were able to capture quite a few singing on the Merlin app. One of the most interesting was the northern Pee-wee.

Oddly the trail around the lake is not connected in a loop. We were forced to walk out of the park on the main road to get from the east parking lot to the west parking lot where we started. This was not noted on any map posted near the trails. The park is pet on leash friendly and we saw plenty of fisherman.

Beautiful trail, it was a lot of fun and you get a good breeze coming in from the lake. I saw some people complaining it was a bit wet, but this is a hiking trail next to a lake. Come with some water resistant boots and watch your step you have a blast!

very muddy after an inch of rain from the day before, very unclear blazes in certain sections of the trail. walking the loop starting from west parking lot made us cross an algae-covered bridge that was covered by 2 to 3 inch deep running water and had no other way across other than wading through the water (one person slipped) or attempting to balance on the rocks to the side (dangerous). other than that, very pretty, but i would not go again without waterproof shoes that rose to midcalf

Great little trail. Its not a super fancy trail or extremely challenging one either. But it is fun, there is plenty of cover and wildlife to enjoy. Great views of the lake and there’s normally not that many people on it.
