Located near Bangor, Pennsylvania, the Appalachian Trail – Wolf Rocks segment offers dog owners a chance to explore some of the most picturesque and rocky trails in the region. This pet-friendly trail is best known for its rugged terrain, shaded forest paths, and striking views from the Wolf Rocks overlook. It’s the perfect spot for active hikers seeking dog-friendly hiking options in the Lehigh Valley area, especially for those who enjoy a bit of a challenge alongside their furry companions.
The trail is not an enclosed dog park but a public hiking trail, so dogs must be kept on leash. Amenities are limited—there are no water fountains or designated dog waste areas, so visitors should bring plenty of water and waste bags. Parking is available at the trailhead on Valley View Dr. The trail features significant rocky stretches and boulder scrambles, so it is best suited for medium to high-energy dogs and owners comfortable with uneven footing. The shaded path and abundant wildlife (keep an eye out for deer and chipmunks!) add to the experience, making it a highly recommended pet-friendly trail in Bangor, PA.
I had a great hike here with my dog. We saw some deer, birds and chipmunks. The trail is very rocky. Be careful. I would not recommend this trail for anyone with accessibility needs.

Sweet trail. The Wolf rocks was definitely a treat to see. Not too difficult of a trailer either. Used Alltrails to navigate with to make sure I made the right turns.

Parked at the trailhead early and hiked East to Mt Minsi. Shaded trail most of the way but lots of rocks on the trail. Bring water also as there were no streams to filter.
