Colgate Recreation Area – Dog Park in Baltimore, Maryland

Colgate Recreation Area is a versatile park located on the border of a Baltimore neighborhood and business district. While not exclusively a dog park, this area offers open green spaces ideal for leashed walks with your pup, making it one of the lesser-known pet-friendly parks in Baltimore, Maryland. The park is known for its large hills, panoramic city views, and recreational amenities like playgrounds, baseball fields, tennis courts, and sledding areas—great for active families and their dogs alike.

Unique features of the park include covered picnic shelters, benches, and grills, making it a popular spot for gatherings or dog-friendly outings. Although the park has been praised for its cleanliness and safe environment by some visitors, others have noted issues with litter and maintenance. With a nearby convenience store and restaurants, Colgate Recreation Area provides easy access for a quick bite after a walk with your furry friend.

Park itself is decent, but it has a serious problem with homeless people squatting around the perimeter acting like they own it making threats to residents who happen to pass by.

This park is NOT clean. Nowhere near it. Over the past year roughly there’s always broken beer bottles and other glass, trash, huge tire tracks in the grass my son fell into one he’s a little guy. And then there’s huge stumps from all the trees sticking out because they don’t take care of it. They mow in the summer. This neighborhood is NOT safe.
