Absolutely lovely park. We fished at the lower pond and went on the Pond Loop and Peninsula trails. They were very well marked and tended to trails. Everything was very clean and there were garbage cans all around the park and trails. There are multiple reservable shelters and 3 playgrounds.
We were able to get a nice full hookup spot which was really nice. Bathrooms and showers are clean.Overall the Park is very well kept. Nice playgrounds for the kiddos. Dog friendly park. Oh they have good ice cream 🍦
Great campground, well maintained, clean restrooms, i think they even rake the cicada carcasses away from sites 🥹 Camp store is nice and well stocked, they even have ice cream!
Personal Safety Rating as an LGBTQ person, super chill. I’m not going into any small businesses in the surrounding area by myself BUT the park and the campground were very chill.
While this state park has some unique overlooks and scenery, on a whole it’s about average compared to others. There’s lots of hiking opportunities, but the trails aren’t the best. This state park seems to be more geared for fishing and boating than anything else. Some of the trails were over-grown with vegetation and had scores of spider webs strewn across the path, so they clearly haven’t been in much use, which can be a good way to get away from crowds. Well, other than the crowds of spiders on the yellow trail system.
It was a great night to sleep. The other people in the area were respectful and quiet as it got later into the evening. The overall grounds are great for walking around and seeing the layout if the grounds. The store was stocked with basic camping needs and snacks. Good ice cream selection.
Try to avoid the locusts season. This is not on the campground. There is nothing they can do, but that time of season is problematic for campers.
