Avon-by-the-Sea is a quintessential New Jersey Shore gem, and my recent visit confirmed its status as a peaceful, delightful escape. Unlike its more crowded neighbors, Avon offers a serene and relaxed atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for families or anyone seeking a quiet retreat.

The beach is a major highlight, with its clean, white sand and gentle, sloping shoreline that makes it ideal for swimming. The simple, charming boardwalk is lined with Victorian-style lamps and benches, creating a wonderful spot for a leisurely stroll with an ocean breeze. We loved watching the parade of boats enter and exit the Shark River Inlet, a unique sight on the southern edge of town. The fine restaurants and quaint shops found just a short walk away provide a perfect break from the sun without disturbing the town’s laid-back vibe.

Exploring the town’s historic Victorian architecture was another treat. The preserved charm and well-maintained streets showcase a community that values its heritage while offering modern comfort. For those seeking genuine relaxation, a stay at one of the lovely Bed & Breakfast Inns is highly recommended, offering a truly old-fashioned, hospitable experience. Avon-by-the-Sea is a charming discovery that feels like a best-kept secret, and I can’t wait to return.

This is one of my favorite beaches!
It’s clean, and if you have kids, you can go all the way to the end, near the bridge before you reach Belmar. You’ll find a perfect spot without big waves, like a natural pool, and there’s also a playground on the beach. I love it!
You can swim, surf, and enjoy!

I’ve been to Avon Beach in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ, and it feels like a calm little seaside town with clean beaches and a peaceful vibe. The beach is small but well-kept, with guards on duty during summer and showers and restrooms nearby. Parking is free, but gets tricky on weekends—especially if you arrive late.

I drove 1056 miles to view this sunrise with my granddaughter. It did not disappoint. The sand was freshly clean, the seagulls weren’t overbearing.
The most beautiful sunrise on the upper east coast.

The boardwalk here is really nice, with a great view of the sea. It’s a great place to relax with your family on a weekend. I went on a public holiday, so parking was a bit tricky. Some places sell parking spots for NULL for the whole day. The restrooms are also there and they’re pretty clean.
