This walk is along a straight, smooth dirt road, shaded by old growth forest, with much greenery and delicious air. To the left side going in is Lake Auburn, our water supply. It’s a quiet path, despite the many visitors. It needs safer parking and a better entrance – the hill is awful, traffic is too close, the steep edge is hard on low cars, and it’s dangerous for the elderly or infirm. A few benches along the path would be terrific. Today we saw a hummingbird sunning himself on a tree limb and I chatted with the chickadees. This was an easy late summer walk while the afternoon sun dappled us with warmth and the cool breeze refreshed us.

I run here all the time, there are markers every 1/4 of a mile so you can see just how far you’ve gone, from the first to last hate it’s just over 2 miles. This isn’t a place I feel necessarily safe though and would definitely recommend bringing a running/walking/cycling buddy with you. There are snakes a black bears that have been spotted on the trail, but no one has been harmed.
