Great Biking Experience at Clinton River Trail, Could Use More Greenery

I truly enjoy biking at Clinton River Trail. The trails are well-maintained, and the scenery is beautiful. However, I feel that the area could benefit from more tree coverage for both aesthetic and practical reasons – it would certainly enhance the overall experience. Despite this minor shortfall, it’s still a wonderful place for outdoor enthusiasts. Recommended for a nice ride amidst nature.

Partially paved trail

There are some parts of the trail that is paved, some gravel and some dirt. There is a crew that is working on re-paving portions of the trail. East of 75 was recently done, with the portion just west of 75 going to be next.
The trail around downtown Auburn Hills has some plaques to tell about the history of the town. If you’re on a leisurely walk it is fun to read the facts.
There are restrooms at some trail heads, but there are also restrooms and food downtown Auburn Hills.

We are lucky to have a great network of trails in the northern Detroit suburbs. This trail is well maintained and makes for a great bike or run route. It’s either paved or finely crushed rock/asphalt and the road crossings are well-marked and at spots that lend themselves to easy crossings most times.

The Clinton River Trail in Auburn Hills is such a hidden gem for anyone who loves the outdoors. Whether you’re biking, walking, or just out for a peaceful stroll, the trail offers a beautiful escape into nature without having to go far from the city. It’s well-maintained, easy to follow, and has a nice mix of shaded areas and open views along the river.

One of the best parts is how quiet and relaxing it is. You can hear the birds, the breeze in the trees, and sometimes catch views of the river flowing gently nearby. There are benches along the way if you want to stop and take it all in, and it’s also pet-friendly, which is a huge plus if you’re bringing a dog along.

The scenery changes just enough to keep things interesting—wooded areas, wetlands, and open paths. Whether you’re looking to get some steps in, train for a longer ride, or just enjoy a little “me time” outdoors, this trail delivers.

It’s also really safe and family-friendly, with easy access points and parking nearby. Clinton River Trail is definitely a favorite spot in Auburn Hills, especially on a nice sunny day!
