Auburn Gate is a well-maintained community featuring a dog park and a variety of amenities including a fitness center, swimming pool, hot tub, and business center. The park and complex are wheelchair accessible with onsite parking available. While the community is welcoming to dogs and residents appreciate the green outdoor spaces, some mixed reviews note occasional maintenance issues, concerns about pet waste management, and limited information about specific dog park features.

Went on a tour with a buddy of mine as we’re looking to move soon. Happened to be the weekend of St. Patty’s. Ashley was extremely friendly and informative. She showed us everything there is to see and we had a lot of fun doing it. David was also a ton of fun as he was putting together a party for the community to celebrate the holiday at the clubhouse. Ashley and David invited us to stay and mingle with the residents after the tour. We had a great experience full of love and laughter and are looking forward to future days ahead!

Mixed Experience Over Three Years

I lived in this apartment complex for three years, and my experience changed significantly over time. While the location and some amenities were appealing, several issues made my stay less than ideal.

Rent & Cost: The rent here is extremely expensive for what you get. After my first lease ended, I faced a huge rent increase that didn’t feel justified considering the issues that cropped up over time.

Community & Complex: Over the years, I noticed a significant shift in the community. The complex now accepts Section 8, which has led to a change in the atmosphere. The pool is too small for the number of residents, and the gym, while somewhat functional, is also cramped. One of the more concerning features is the fact that the complex has only one entrance and one exit—definitely not ideal in case of an emergency.

The groundskeeping service also changed recently, and the new vendor just can’t keep up. Grass clippings were often left on my patio and the surrounding areas, which was frustrating. If you’re lucky enough to live near the pond, you’ll get peaceful nature sounds, but if not, the thin walls and windows make it feel like you’re living outside with nature.

For families, there’s really nothing for children to do here, so this may not be the best place for families with young kids.

Apartment Condition: I had a two-bedroom unit, which was spacious, but the maintenance issues were constant. I had a leak in the front room that was repaired twice but never fully resolved. The room had a constant mildew smell. The furnace/AC unit was unbearably loud, and I couldn’t run it at night without waking up.

There was a huge gap underneath the front door, which led to trash and grass clippings piling up at my entrance. The patio screen door didn’t have a lock and was often off track; despite repeated requests, maintenance never fixed it. My unit was also infested with spiders, and when I left my patio door open for just 30 minutes, flies swarmed in. I also had a major bee issue in my bedroom, with bees coming through the vent—over 20 bees killed in one day.

Maintenance: Maintenance usually responded quickly, but you had to submit a formal ticket for anything to be addressed. There were multiple occasions when I requested service while I was home, but maintenance still came when I wasn’t there. One time, I came home in the middle of the night and could tell someone had been in my apartment. I called the office to complain, but they were unhelpful.

Additionally, maintenance was sometimes careless. For example, when fixing my microwave and ice maker, the technician put his unclean hands directly into my ice bucket, which felt unsanitary.

Parking: Parking was often a hassle, with ADA spots frequently occupied by vehicles without proper permits. Despite the constant violations, the local police were inactive, and no tickets were ever issued. The parking situation could be a real headache, especially during peak hours.

Dog Waste: While I love dogs, the amount of dog waste around the complex was appalling. Many pet owners didn’t clean up after their dogs, and my neighbor would leave bags of dog poop outside their apartment. It created a very unpleasant environment.

Deposit Issues: One of the most frustrating aspects of my experience was with the pet deposit. Upon moving out, I was told I didn’t pay one, despite having documentation proving I did. After much back-and-forth, I had to dig up the cashed cashier’s check from three years ago to prove the deposit was made. If you decide to live here, make sure you keep every receipt and proof of payment, as the burden of proof is entirely on you.

Final Thoughts: While the location and some amenities were convenient, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The steep rent hikes, maintenance issues, parking problems, and poor management of the complex made living here less enjoyable over time. If you’re looking for a place with more consistency, better management, and attention to detail, you might want to look elsewhere.

My experience with auburn gate has been amazing. Ashley is so sweet and helpful. I applied 5 days ago and she got me in only two days later! She was very informative and extremely friendly. The property is beautifully maintained, my 2 bedroom apartment is the perfect size for my family of four with gorgeous interior, and everyone in the area is so kind and respectful, I have no complaints! Thank you Ashley for being here, answering my hundreds of questions, and making my move so smooth!

Very mixed experience here… Moving in was easy, staff at tours were very nice, and the amenities are pretty. You can tell they are trying to make the place nice. I will say, though, we did not get the opportunity to use a lot of amenities because they were either not working or being upgraded… hopefully future residents will get to enjoy more of the “selling points” of the complex.
There were numerous times where maintenance felt impossible to reach. This has mostly improved, which is good. We also had little things breaking constantly, like the garage door opener or the main door to our building, and when paying the price of almost a 2-bedroom someplace else for a higher-end 1-bedroom here it was just kind of a bummer. We were overall satisfied, had pleasant neighbors, but there was definitely a problem of people not picking up after their dogs that got worse the longer we stayed (lived here for about 2 years and just moved out).
The worst part was definitely moving out since we got reports regarding our security deposit. Word to the wise: Report everything to maintenance. EVERYTHING. Otherwise, you will get charged, even if it would be a simple landlord-type replacement/touch-up job that would cost very little to take care of. Very disappointed to be ending on a less-than-satisfactory note because we had really enjoyed our time as residents. Other thing, USPS no longer delivers packages to the apartments and only leaves them at the front desk, and Auburn Gate does not inform you when you have a package delivered, so it’s better to use a private company like UPS or Amazon to make sure there’s no confusion. That headache started just a few months ago, so maybe it’ll be fixed at some point. I also will say that residents are often left “in the dark” about projects/work being done in the community, which can make it hard when you’re not anticipating it. One big example was when the gym was closed without noticed multiple times, which was one of the few amenities that we regularly tried to use. Also a little thing, but that coffee maker in the main building was frequently broken it was definitely disappointing to walk all the way there to not get the drink you were hoping for. They are inconsistent at best with communication, but hoping that with a shift in management this will continue to improve as well.
Other than that, we loved David and lots of the other staff members we came in contact with. Just make sure to be very diligent with your move-in checklist and contact maintenance with any imperfections that will need addressing before your move-out date. Updated to add a not about dissatisfaction with recent management and move-out charges that have not been resolved favorably… Disappointing way to end our time at a place that was otherwise somewhat positive. It’s always difficult to get back a security deposit, which is usually some sort of a scam where you really need to get direct documentation to protect yourself. Wish that it could have gone differently. 🙁

We have been here about a month. The leasing experience was pleasant and our leasing agent was Mateo. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable. She made the process very easy. As a former property manager I was happy to find the lease perfectly straight forward. The maintenance team here is top notch. Our apartment was in excellent condition and had been refreshed well. Our apartment and building are quiet and neighbors are friendly but not in anyone’s business. So far this has been great and we are happy with our choice of property. Public areas are very nice too.
