This well-maintained trail, which winds its way along the Raritan Bay shoreline, offers breathtaking views of the bay, the NYC skyline, the Atlantic Highlands marina, and the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. Wildflowers and sea grass border the path, and parts of the trail go through a shady canopy of trees. Most of the trail is gravel with paved sections at both ends. We visited the trail on a sunny day in late summer and found plenty of parking at the Popamora Point trailhead. Popamora point also has restrooms. The trail contains garbage cans and recycling “buckets” (actual buckets attached to the cans!) throughout, making the trail exceptionally clean. One word of warning: not all bikers provide warning that they’re coming up on you, which can be a little harrowing if you have a dog! Additionally, e-bikes are allowed, so be cognizant that the bike you see in the far distance might be upon you faster than you’d expect!

Great place for a walk, bring your dog! And if they like to jump in the water even better.
