Nestled on Spring Street in scenic Ashland, Massachusetts, Ashland State Park Boat Launch is a local gem known for its lakeside views, pet-friendly trails, and easy access for outdoor enthusiasts. The park features a picturesque reservoir with a roughly 3-mile hiking trail—perfect for dog owners looking to enjoy dog-friendly hiking and nature walks with their pets. The area is popular for fishing, boating, and lakeside strolls, making it a versatile spot for both two-legged and four-legged visitors.
Free onsite parking is available at the boat ramp, though spaces can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. The lot has enough room for regular vehicles and limited space for vehicle-trailer combinations, but be aware that parking is not specifically designated and can get tight. Trails surrounding the lake vary in terrain and offer shade from mature trees, creating a comfortable, natural environment for dogs and owners alike. While there isn’t a formal fenced dog area, dogs are commonly seen along the walking paths and around the water, enjoying the park’s outdoorsy atmosphere.
I love the lake and that they have a BOAT RAMP, if you were allowed to use it as a BOAT RAMP. Seems this is considered a dog park…nothing against dogs, I love them. it’s the idiot owners that won’t park in the main lot instead of clogging up the BOAT RAMP
Great place to go fishing or launch a boat. Can be a challenge to park as parking is limited and not designated. Very easy to get blocked in when parking in the middle. Also some issues with people going here to swim instead of the beach but over all a great spot. Lots of fish to catch.
Decent size parking lot for just vehicles. Parking for vehicles with boat trailers can get tight at times.
As a spot to park and hike the reservoir trail around it. It would be nice to have a Porta Potty for the people who park here to begin their activity. However, the town beach has Porta Potty’s there. If you can go the distance.
Ashland State Park is a great place to go for a walk, swim, boat ride, or fish. This parking lot is free and the lot can and does fill up quickly, more parking should be added in this lot if possible.
The hike around the reservoir is about 3 miles although by hiking right alongside the water this may make it a bit longer. There are lots of dogs and people on the trails especially during popular times.
Beautiful Lake and a very nice hiking trail around it. Varied terrain and elevation with areas of tree roots but a fairly easy walk. Parking is free at the boat ramp parking lot opposite end of the lake from the dam
