Quiet nice place to pop tennis ball around. You can be there by yourself and not feel scared. What I mean is no people lurking around.
The city of Asheboro removed the basketball goals around a decade ago to deter the “urban crowd” in its gentrification but hey you and your pals can play a nice game of tennis. Diversity is clearly not welcome, here in the photo you’ll see the basketball court reduced to a concrete slab.
Just last week I sat there on the phone , while they programmed another phone. I literally grew up there as a kid riding my bike to the pool and getting enough nerve to jump off the 20 foot high dive. To a young man in my mid 20’s playing basketball. This place used to be alive with activity, laughter and fun. Now it is deader than a doorknob. They took all the goals out. We used to run fullcourt on 3 courts. Now there is not even one goal. How sad for the kids. Some adults who had pull years ago didn’t want to have to stop or slow down while others played. So they shut it all down. Now for the most part there is just an empty park,,,, and ,, 🔕 silence. They got what they wanted. They complained about the parking, as they watched the Little League games. What is ironic is there is no League of any kind for the youth to play in. GOD help our youth. Our officials and Councils, boards have failed them. It’s almost as if anywhere they see People Laughing . It has too be shut down. We dated there, played basketball at 2 or 3 in the morning. There wasn’t any vandalism, or craziness. But they in a sense, put a padlock on this place. They shut down Acme McCrary for to the public years ago. Unless you can afford a high Dollar Membership to the Y. And even then you have to compete with people who decide to have indoor soccer games. And they wonder why the Younger Generation never goes outside much. Go Where?Where can they go?I remember how people would have dinners, large ones. And me and my Buddy would just blend in to a Reunion or whatever and grab a plate or two.I guess that’s what they call progress. But to me, I stuck in the Ol DaysMikey Out. Oooohhhh Yeah!!!!!!
This was a nice park. Lots of thing to do for all ages.
