Shirlington Park offers a spacious, off-leash dog park with a long paved walkway and play areas along the sides. It features wheelchair accessible entrances and parking, picnic tables, and is great for kids and dog owners alike. A notable highlight is the stream adjacent to the park where dogs can swim, though caution is advised due to water quality. The park is well-maintained with regular visitors, but it may get muddy during rainy weather. The river nearby is not fenced, so supervision is recommended.

Best dog park in the DC-VA area. Has a huge off-leash area with tons of trees and a stream for dogs to play in. Be warmed that playing in the stream may not be recommended for some dogs, as bacteria level can be high. Highly recommend, must visit if you have a dog!

Have always loved this park, go there every day. For the most part, people watch their animals and the grounds are well maintained.

Buyer beware during rainy weather as it can get muddy, luckily the Muddy Mutt is just next door offering DIY doggy showers.

The river is, unfortunately, not fenced and is near a main road, though the dog would have to be a bit determined to get to it due to the rocky hills.

Not very big, but long enough that the dogs spread out. I only wish owners were better trained. Lots of dog poop along the genderless and buildings.

I love this place. My dogs enjoyed the nice walk and jumping into the water.

Fantabulous! The dog park of all dog parks! It’s somewhere between a quarter mile and a half mile of a center paved walkway with play area along both sides of the walkway. There are tons and tons of dogs there almost all the time! There was one time when it was super icy rain and I thought I would certainly be the only one out, but there were at least 10 to 20 other people who visited and left while I was there. Lots of fun at all times and all-weather! During the warmer months, the dogs can go play in the river that goes alongside the closed in dog park. There is a little gate on either end of the dog park that allows you to go directly down towards the water. You have to be able to walk or climb down a short Rocky hill , but it’s not difficult.
