For a free beach on the great lakes I wasn’t thinking that it would be so pleasant. I was also told that I had come on the busiest weekend of the year. I found that I was able to read/swim/sun-bath without Interruption and I normally get pulled into conversations easily.
The amount of upkeep this beach has is amazing for how small the town is. This is truly what most people feel a small Midwest town should be.
Arcadia Public Beach: A Peaceful Slice of Michigan’s Shoreline
Nestled along the Lake Michigan coastline, Arcadia Public Beach is a quiet treasure that feels like a well-kept secret passed down through generations. Just off M-22, the sleepy road that winds along the bluffs and water’s edge, this beach offers a rare kind of calm that’s hard to find anywhere else.
As you step onto the sand, time seems to slow. The beach itself is modest—no carnival sounds, no towering resorts—just the soft whisper of wind through dune grass and the rhythmic hush of waves lapping the shore. A wooden boardwalk guides you from the parking lot, over gently rolling dunes, until your toes meet the soft tan sands. The water stretches endlessly westward, where on clear days, the horizon glows like a promise in the late afternoon sun.
Families spread towels near the driftwood logs, kids race to build castles or wade into the cool, glassy lake, and couples sit close on the weathered benches, watching the sunset paint the sky in deepening hues of gold, lavender, and flame-orange. The beach is dotted with smooth stones and small treasures—perfect for quiet rock hunting or skipping stones into the gentle surf.
Behind you, wild dune grass and cottonwood trees sway in the breeze, and just beyond the treeline sits Arcadia’s sleepy charm—an ice cream stand, a fishing pier
Awesome beach. Plenty of parking, bathrooms, and small playground. We had fun playing and walking around for an hour or so. From the dunes, a nice view of Arcadia Lake as well.
Went to several beaches along Lake Michigan over the weekend and this beach was by far the cleanest and most well maintained. All were good, but Arcadia stuck out to me as stunning and was my absolute favorite spot. If you like rock hunting this is a pretty good spot.
Stunning beach with gorgeous sand and views. Shoreline has a line is very sharp rock and shells definitely recommend water shoes but not horrible if you don’t have them because the rock area is so short. Coldish water in the first week of August but, once acclimated it’s perfectly okay.
