Birch Water Dog Park in Anchorage, Alaska

If you’re searching for a dog park in Anchorage, Alaska, Birch Water Dog Park provides a convenient spot for JBER (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson) residents and visitors to let their dogs play and exercise. This fully fenced, pet-friendly space offers a quiet environment for off-leash fun with views of passing trains and a bit of local character. There is a small infographic gazebo and a hidden bench where owners can relax, making it a unique option for military families or anyone on base.

While this dog park is accessible and has a dedicated area for dogs to roam freely, reviews note a lack of maintenance, especially concerning grass mowing, branch trimming, and occasional snow removal during winter. Waste disposal facilities may be limited or absent, so visitors should bring their own bags and be prepared to pack out waste. Birch Water Dog Park is best for a quick exercise run rather than a full outing, with easy parking nearby but minimal amenities. It’s great for dog owners on base seeking a simple, dog-friendly area, but those looking for well-kept, amenity-rich parks may wish to explore other local options in Anchorage.

Very small area. Fully fenced. We were the only ones there.
Park could use some TLC.

This dog park does the job of allowing your dog to run around but it is in desperate need of grass cutting and trimming of tree branches.

Apparently JBER has a ton of HORRIBLE dog owners. Clean up after your dog. This park is SUPER terrible. You’re better off finding a random empty field. I’d give this “dog park” negative stars if possible. It’s a dumply little fenced in space only slightly larger than your standard backyard. Seriously, don’t waste your time.

Nice little dog park. Overlooks the trains that run through JBER. Little infographic gazebo and a hidden bench. No place to throw out waste bags.

Nicole Rogers

It is a dog park on base so that’s nice, it’s not well maintained though.
Edit 12/25/21- This park is completely un-maintained. The grass was never cut during summer and snow hasn’t been removed during winter.
