Small park that has North Chuctanunda Falls. Just a short distance from the parking lot.

Kirk Douglas Park is a nice small park located in Amsterdam, NY. The park was opened in 1988 and is named for actor Kirk Douglas who was a native of Amsterdam. The park is situated near a waterfall on the Chucatandra Creek.
The waterfall can easily be viewed from the park as a set of stairs runs parallel to it. A bridge near the bottom of the park also has good views of the falls. Near the bridge you will see a boulder marker with the face of Kirk Douglas on it. From the top of the park there is a nice view of the city of Amsterdam. The waterfall is central to Amsterdam’s history as long ago many of the city’s carpet mills were located along this creek.
The park also contains a few benches and a playground. Though the park has some nice features it is not kept up as much as it should be. Certain parts have long grass and the paint was wearing away in a few places. Still, the park has an interesting history and great views of the waterfall and surrounding city. The park is worth a look if you’re in the city of Amsterdam.

Beautiful waterfall. Cute little place for the kids to play. Picnic tables and a cute little gazebo to eat under. Will definetly visit again.

Anytime you have a park dedicated in your name, is certainly is an honor. Nice small park, maybe a better time to visit is the spring or summer.

Had a great time with my kids. Play area was clean and well kept. The only downside is the limited amount of “play activities” available to the children, the park could use a few more pieces of play equipment. Other than that we had a great time and will definitely go back.
