Riparian Zone isn’t your standard fenced dog park—instead, it offers beautiful creekside hiking, plenty of open space, and opportunities to splash in the water during the spring. It’s a perfect destination if you enjoy hiking with your dog in Altadena and want scenic views and natural surroundings. Note that there are no formal facilities or fenced areas, so plan accordingly before you go! Parking is available near the bridge at the end of Explorer Rd.
Great for all. I recomend this to everyone
Best hike around. Great for kids and dogs. Take towels or even suits. Water is flowing in the spring.
Wow my first time there what a beautiful place to hike I would recommend it I just want to learn how to get to the bottom parking
Follow the road all the way to the end and park just before the bridge to JPL. This hike has a relatively unmarked entrance. Follow it into the woods and take the downward path which criss-crosses the river multiple times. Prepare to get wet! The hike can go all the way through the rocky river or up to the road and across a bridge. We stopped at the white wood bridge and turned around. Kids ages 7-11 had a great time here! As we were leaving, I noticed several families with small children coming in directly to the river “beach” area at the start of the hike for water and sand play. There are no facilities at this hike.
A cool place to chill and have a meal, take a hike or just enjoy nature. This is the parking area for Gabrielino Trail and when last we went, there was a sign on the board at the entrance to the trail of some animal being released back into the area. Enjoy and take out your trash please.
