Absolutely stunning park along the Hudson! Gorgeous cliffside views alongwith the views of the Hudson river itself, peaceful trails, and perfect spots for a picnic or riverside walk.
What a wild adventure! We hiked Peanut Leap Cascade and tackled the Giant Stairs Trail at Palisades Interstate Park—and it started off sunny and beautiful. But halfway through, a sudden flood storm came rolling in. The skies turned dark, rain poured down, and we even heard the emergency sirens go off three times. The trail, already challenging with its boulder scrambles and steep terrain, became even more intense in the rain. It was tough, slippery, and at times a little nerve-wracking, but also incredibly exhilarating. The waterfall at Peanut Leap was stunning, especially with all the extra rainfall, and the views of the Hudson were dramatic and unforgettable. This hike is no joke, especially in unexpected weather. But if you’re up for an adventurous challenge and come prepared, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Just be sure to check the forecast—and maybe have an exit plan just in case!
🥾 Hiking in Palisades Interstate Park — Long Path North to Peanut Leap & Giant Stairs Attempt (June 2025).We hiked yesterday in Palisades Interstate Park, starting on Long Path North and reaching the Peanut Leap Cascade. The trail was beautiful — peaceful forest, clean air, birds singing. A perfect break from city life.⚠️ The descent and climb to the waterfall was steep and challenging, with rocks and tree roots. Proper hiking shoes and caution are a must.At the waterfall, we took a relaxing break, enjoyed the sound of the water, had snacks, and took some nice photos 📸. Then our friends suggested continuing on to the Giant Stairs section. The trail quickly became very difficult — big boulders, steep climbing, even needing hands to balance. Since we had a 12 y.o.daughter and a friend’s husky, we decided it was safer to turn back.💵 Parking is paid (up to NULL/day) — online.🌿 A stunning hike overall, but definitely not beginner-friendly beyond the waterfall. If you’re hiking with children or pets, plan your route carefully.🦅 At the end of our hike, we stopped at the overlook where birdwatchers gathered to watch eagles soaring and flying out of the cliffs — a truly amazing sight to end the day.
