🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Holmes Run Dog Park, located at 214 S Jenkins St in Alexandria, Virginia, is a peaceful, pet-friendly green space perfect for on-leash dog walks. Set amidst quiet trails, mature native trees, and abundant benches, it’s a favorite local spot for dog walkers seeking natural beauty and tranquility. While the park is referred to as a dog park, it does not feature a fully fenced off-leash area here—the nearest true off-leash, fenced option is a short walk away at another location.
This scenic park offers mowed grassy areas, wooded buffers along a scenic stream, and paved/gravel trails. It’s an excellent place for dog-friendly hiking or a relaxing stroll with your pup. With its calm atmosphere, shaded spots, and ample seating, Holmes Run Dog Park stands out as one of Alexandria’s prettiest locations for pet owners to enjoy with their dogs.
This is not a dog park it’s a residence .
Prettiest local park. Quiet. Lots of benches n trees n a trail.
Nice park and trail for a dog walk but NOT a fenced dog park. This is a wooded area with benches and grass along a path/gravel trail behind the homes. It’s not an off leash area but there is a nice fenced dog park just a short walk over the bridge and along the trail.
This is a great little dog off-leash area in a naturalistic or semi-natural setting, meaning that the actual off-leash area is mowed turf with park benches, but that it is surrounded by young-ish and mature native trees and there is a vegetated buffer along the old Mill Race stream. This area is not near any streets and never sees a ton of usage at any given time.
Please note that the label on Google Maps is a mistake, though – this dog exercise area is NOT the Holmes Run dog park! This off leash area is located with the Wakefield Tarleton neighborhood’s Tarleton Park. In one of the photos accompanying this Google Maps entry you can clearly see the City of Alexandria’s signage for the area saying “Tarleton Park.” Also, please note – the address listed for Tarleton Park (and this off-leash area) is incorrect; the 4420A Vermont Avenue address will NOT get you this park; if entered in GPS that address will take you to a streetscape location in the Wakefield Tarleton neighborhood (which is the cause for one of the negative reviews of this area).
