Located within Mt Zephyr Park, Grist Mill Dog Park offers a spacious, fully fenced environment for dogs to run and play off-leash in Alexandria, Virginia. This dog-friendly destination is popular among locals for its mix of grassy and tree-lined shady areas, providing plenty of sun and shelter to keep pups and their owners comfortable. There are benches and picnic tables for relaxing, as well as a welcoming community of regular visitors. While there isn’t a separate section for small dogs, the space is large enough for all sizes to enjoy safely.
Convenient amenities make visits easy: water bowls and a hand pump for filling them, kiddie pools for dogs to cool off, and waste stations stocked with poop bags. Parking is available with wheelchair access, and the park is a short walk from the lot. This well-maintained, pet-friendly space is an excellent spot for dog socialization—especially busy on weekends—making it a great local choice for dog owners looking for exercise, companionship, and community in Northern Virginia.
Nice park. A little walk from the car but really a great place to run. Not too many other dogs when we came but our boy had a great run. Park is mostly grass which makes it a nicer place than others. Lightly wooded so plenty sun and shade. A little hard to find using gps.
Of all the dog parks in this area, this one happens to be my favorite. You are within good company of the dog owners that come to the area regularly and nearly all dogs are socialized well. Patrons are respectful and conscientious of their responsibilities over their pets.
We have been visting the area and we feel lucky to have such a big dog park so closeby. It was a lot more packed on Fridays and the weekends if you’re looking for doggie socialization. There is no separate small dog section like at some other dog parks, but it is big enough so there is a lot of space.
Good, fenced-in dog park with plenty of space for big or small doggos to roam. Nice community of people come here as well. Stations provided with poop bags and water for the pups. Tables and benches available for the humans. Only critique is that the park is made of dirt/gravel and no grass, but there are trees!
It is a huge fenced in dog park. It has kiddie pools and water bowls and a hand pump for water. There are benches and picnic tables to sit down at. There are 3 stations equipped with poop bags and they are usually balls and other kind of toys left around from previous guests.
My puppy loves coming here.
