🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]

Located in the heart of Albuquerque, Bel-Air Park offers a dedicated fenced dog area for local pet owners. This small, tucked-away space features plentiful shade from mature trees, a grassy lawn, and a relatively new playground in the main park. With its fencing, Bel-Air Park is a spot where dogs can exercise off-leash in a secure environment, making it convenient for those searching for a dog-friendly park in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Despite the park’s natural beauty and amenities, it’s important for visitors to be aware of current safety concerns—many local reviews mention ongoing issues with vagrancy, occasional incidents involving aggressive dogs, and safety concerns, especially during evening hours. For those seeking pet-friendly trails or dog parks near Phoenix Ave NE, Bel-Air Park remains an option, but vigilant supervision and daytime visits are recommended by locals.
The park has basically been taken over by vagrants who are there just about every single day. They have been dealing drugs, drinking, throwing trash everywhere and laying around all over the place. Many like to hang out near the gate for the main park and dog park entrance on the west end.. They do this we believe to intimidate citizens of this neighborhood and others from going into the park on that end as the vagrants feel the park belongs to them now. The police have been called many times making arrests of those with warrants and others caught with drugs. The rest scatter like rats from a sinking ship but begin filtering back into the park after police have left. Thanks to tim kellers ignorant policies concerning the vagrants and the fact it basically invites more from all over the US, we have had little use of our park. Some Bel Air residents are to the point they would be fine if the park was just shut down like the Columbus park downtown since we have very little use of it any way because of the vagrant problem. Also because of the problems in our neighborhood when the vagrants wander through and onto our properties in the middle of the night. It is a shame we have leadership who allows this sort of thing to happen to our park and our neighborhood.

The homeless don’t bother me. What bothers me is how many people bring aggressive dogs here, thinking it’s perfectly okay.

What used to be a beautiful park is now a shooting gallery and a smoking den. You can’t even get into the dog so-called park which now has a crowd almost always openly freebasing in front of the one gate opening to it.
Our dog was attacked there, and the dog that attacked my dog, then attacked my husband for holding my dog up in the air
Couple weeks after that we were taking a walk another dog off a leaf and we said could you put your dog on a leash to the person and were verbally assaulted by a homeless lady who then we found out was the perpetrator in a stabbing within minutes of us passing . The next person who passed her, she stabbed.
I do not recommend you ever let your children go there without you not to mention if you let your children go there you need to clean and check the playground for needles up in the playground area walking up the steps because we see and shooting up inside of the playground regularly using it as a shooting Den.
We live in the neighborhood right next to this place and we have moved in our lives. Have gotten better moving away from this park.

Still alot of of homeless, scaring off potential visitors. I often see arguments between them, and trash left about. It’s fencing is nice, and I may use the dog park area now that it’s available..but never in the evening or later hours!
