My girls and I took my grandson to the park waiting for the derby to start and my girls had a lot of flash backs. We lived in Thayer for years and the Afton park was always a fun treat for them. They played as hard as my grandson did. A little more tiring for me of course but I made a day of it feeding the birds day old popcorn.
Afton Iowa park is a quaint town square park. It is a representation of small towns and middle America everywhere. It has the swings,water features, and the old band stand was one of my favorite features of the park. It is smack dab in the middle of town (hence town square park). It is easy for people to find, you have to drive right by it to go in or out of town. Always a welcome spot !!
Afton was a great destination for my road trip Saturday. They had a business celebration where all the shops had sales, free refreshments, and fun things to do. I had lunch at The Creamery and the hamburger was fantastic and less than NULL. Nice day.
The Afton square is the perfect addition to our little town. There is so much for every age there. From the splash pad (open memorial day-labor day) to multiple playground equipment sets for various ages to the basketball courts. There are even covered places to enjoy a meal.
