Great Hill Recreation Area

Great Hill Recreation Area in Acton, MA offers miles of well-marked hiking trails with varying difficulty, suitable for children and pets. The area includes a small pond where dogs can swim and play off-leash. The trails are scenic and include some rocky sections, so caution is advised. The park has wheelchair-accessible parking and is a popular spot for relaxing and outdoor activities with dogs. However, the pond may experience algae blooms in summer, and parts of the fields are sometimes used for soccer, limiting off-leash access.

Where Google map took me was inaccurate. Fortunately, I drove along the edge of the park area and found a small marked entrance area at the end of Kelley Road, which was just a short distance from where I’d started. Someone tacked up trail maps to the trees, which was very handy. I took the yellow trail, which loops the whole park. Regularly, there were red trails; these were spokes out away from the center of the park, leading to various other entrances. I followed each of these to the end to get some extra steps in. Completing the whole yellow loop (with the red side trails) gave me about 7000 steps plus about 20 floors of elevation change. Fairly easy trail with a few muddy patches. Pretty quiet on a Wednesday morning.

Great Hill is a great conservation area in Acton. There are miles of well marked trails. There is also a small pond where dog owners frequently convene to allow them to run and play off leash. (An informal dog park) However, the pond sometimes has an unpleasant algae bloom in the summer. The fields are also used for soccer practice, so dogs can’t run free at all times.

Fantastic place to relax, hike and let your dog go for a swim. Fun to watch as each dog has a unique habit to amuse you.

The trail is well marked, with blue trail shortcuts to make the overall hike a little shorter for those who need it. Pretty rocky, so one should be careful about twisting an ankle. Not good for speed hiking, but cool views to be taken in.

The Hike was Good, At least, I found a lot
Of Squirrels At The Hike. The Walk is not easy to walk. You have To Be Careful Hiking.
