🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
West Hills Small Dog Run is a popular dog park located in Huntington, New York, offering a welcoming environment for small dog owners. The park features a fully fenced enclosure, providing peace of mind for pet parents concerned about safety, especially for smaller breeds. Its accessible parking lot makes it wheelchair-friendly, and there are several picnic tables and benches for owners to relax while their pets play. The area is well-maintained, with convenience amenities such as dog bowls and complimentary poop bags available in the park.
One notable aspect of West Hills Small Dog Run is its natural setting, with portions grassy and other sections covered in mulch or wood chips. The park can become muddy after rain, so visitors may want to plan accordingly on wet days. It’s generally quieter than other dog runs in the area, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a less crowded, peaceful dog park in Huntington. The dog run is adjacent to pet-friendly hiking trails and is considered good for families with children as well.
Our favorite dog park! Very clean and always friendly dog owners
The West Hills small dog run is normally a great place to let my Havanese puppy run without fear of being trampled by larger dogs. Some time in the past week mulch has been spread. Large and small chunks of wood (poorly mulched) which can splinter in my dogs mouth and paws. Had a dog once that suffered internal bleeding, not fatal but could have been. Why would any one spread this stuff in a dog park. Shame on them
West Hills Small Dog Park is a decent spot with a good amount of space for dogs to run around freely. The park provides some conveniences like dog bowls and poop bags, which is helpful. There are about four benches for pet parents to relax, though a few more wouldn’t hurt. It can get quite muddy after it rains, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting in wet weather. One downside is that it’s been pretty quiet (empty) every time we’ve visited on weekdays, so it might be ideal for those looking for a less crowded park.
Really nice dog run and not as beat up as the others I’ve used. Scheduled a Shiba Meetup recently and everyone commented on the good shape the run is in.
It was a pretty nice area. Gates work, no holes in fence. Plenty of grass but also quite a few places that were run down and either only had wood chips, dirt, or mud. Overall, it was pretty good and I will visit again. I was surprised that it was completely empty and I was the only person with my dog there on a Saturday afternoon. Only thing I had an issue with was there were so many cigarettes butts there. People should pick them up or throw them elsewhere so the dogs don’t eat them and vomit or get sick. It would be nice if the area could be level (not heavily sloped like it currently is) because it is quite sloped and when it’s muddy or snowy, it becomes a hassle walking or jogging down the field. Same experience spring or winter.
