Part of the trail is currently closed due to heavy rain washing away(8/16/2024) part of the bridge/dam over the river. There are several areas within the trail that is closed off. Bridge over the Nissequoge river washed away, so the trail can not be completed as of 8/22/24..
I’ve loved this park for decades. It is an amazing place to visit and walk in nature. Unfortunately, nature recently changed this park when the remains of Hurricane Ernesto caused significant rains which caused the dam to break. This caused Stump Pond to drain. Very sad to see.
Love going for walks with my pups through the preserve. They need to do something though to get the water back in after last years storm. Went from a beautiful walk to a post apocalyptic walk. Either way still a great system of trails that doesn’t really take any skills to navigate. Plenty of deer and chipmunks roaming around. Horses too. Living close by its our go to during quick nice days
We used to enjoy fishing here, but sadly, the water has been drained after the dam broke in August. Despite this, we visited for the nostalgia and were pleased to find that the trails remain wonderful. The area still offers a serene and scenic environment for hiking and exploring. We even spotted some deer along the trails, which was a delightful surprise.
You can bring your dog on a leash, making it a great spot for pet owners. Plus, there’s no fee on weekdays, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it’s still a lovely place to visit for a peaceful walk in nature.
The park is still beautiful, although very muddy because the pond has now dried up. I think in hot weather there will be a lot of mosquitoes and it won’t be a good place to go but if it isn’t hot and not humid, it is worth the trip, You can still hike completely around the pond, or what used to be the pond.
