Located in the heart of Brooklyn at 48 Columbia Pl, the Willowtown Community Dog Run is a cozy off-leash haven for local pups and their owners. This dog park in Brooklyn, New York, offers a long, narrow run perfect for playing fetch and encouraging dogs to stretch their legs. Recent upgrades include new stones and concrete tubes for enrichment, adding to its charm. The park is popular for those seeking a quiet and low-distraction environment, especially for dogs new to off-leash play or those that prefer smaller crowds.
The Willowtown Dog Run features benches for owners, is wheelchair accessible, and welcomes all furry friends. Owners will appreciate the natural ground surface, ideal for dogs that love to dig, and the proximity to a community garden for added sensory experiences. While it’s best visited during dry weather—since it can become muddy and puddled after rain—it’s a fantastic, well-loved destination for a quick and peaceful play session in Brooklyn’s dog-friendly community.
So small and flooded
Don’t go after a rainy day!
I really like this small dog run. It has a long skinny shape, so there’s room for my dog to get up to full speed when we play fetch, despite the small area. There’s also benches, the community garden next door to sniff at, and some bags of toys at the entrance in case you forgot to bring your own. It’s pretty quiet and out-of-the-way, which is nice, and unlike some other small dog runs in the area, the natural ground is exposed, so your dog can dig if they want. I think this would be a good place to bring your dog if you don’t have much off-leash experience, as the distraction level is low.
I’ve only been here in the summer, and the center is low-lying and does collect water when it’s wet out. The inner gate is also a bit janky; there’s no functioning latch, so the door is just held in place with a chunk of concrete. (The outer gate has a proper working latch though.)
I usually go in the morning, so we often have the place to ourselves. I imagine the space might not be so great with more than a few dogs present, as the narrow width could make it a bit cramped for rambunctious multi-dog play.
If you want a big area for your dog to socialize and play with many other dogs, go up the hill to Hillside Dog Park. This dog run is a pretty nice place to stop on a walk though.
Recently upgraded with new stones and concrete “tubes” for the dogs to run thru. It’s small but perfect for a quick morning or evening off-leash experience. Our dog loves coming here and it’s never crowded.
