Big Sioux Recreation Area Dog Training Park offers dog owners in Brandon, South Dakota a pet-friendly adventure surrounded by gorgeous tallgrass prairie and shaded woodland trails. This spacious, mowed grassy area with a trail leading into the woods is perfect for pups who love to explore off the beaten path. The atmosphere is peaceful and rarely crowded, making it ideal for independent dogs and humans who value a quieter dog park experience.
While there is no fenced area or gate, well-behaved dogs can enjoy plenty of off-leash exercise under the owner’s supervision, and leashed walks are perfect for pups who tend to wander. Amenities near the parking lot include a restroom, water fountain, and picnic table, providing comfort for both dogs and their owners. Whether you’re looking for scenic dog-friendly hiking near Brandon or a tranquil spot to let your furry friend stretch their legs, this park is a local favorite.
My dog loves it here
This is just a mowed grassy area with a trail that goes into the woods. It leads to a kayak & canoe only campsite in the back. Sort of strange to be labeled for dogs but there’s no gate, so you might not be able to go off leash for more unruly dogs. Just a little area for dogs to sniff and stretch their legs outside.
Awesome place for the more independent pups/humans – those who enjoy the outdoors and being “off the beaten path,” so to speak. There are plenty of unofficial but clear trails throughout the tallgrass prairie. Up by the parking lot, there’s a restroom, water fountain, picnic table, and a mowed play area. There is no gate at the entrance. We only saw one other person and pup, and we all mostly stayed out of each other’s way.
