Very nice RV Park. The roads are one way which is good because when there are many people there the road gets tight when navigating with a trailer. There are a few pull-through sites on the inner roads. The firewood dispenser was not working when we were there, probably sold out. Dog friendly beach in the day use area was nice, I did not go the the dog friendly beach in the RV Park area but a sign says there is one. There is a dump station with two inlet hoses. Potable water hose is close by at the end of the cement island. Showers and bathrooms close to the beach. Dollar General just north of the park entrance for any miscellaneous items you may need. Sturgeon Point Lighthouse is north of the park. Clean and friendly atmosphere.
We have been here every year for almost ten years. We have always loved it but this year it just wasn’t. The grass is not taken care of anymore. The bathrooms were destroyed and not taken care of. The accessible benches was removed from the wall when we really needed it.
The “neighbors” across the way were teenagers without parents at all. Seriously. Not adults all day until later in the evening. They were able to do whatever they wanted with no one stopping anything. The DNR drove by multiple times a day and nothing was said. They were literally cutting down trees and playing games of knocking them over and almost hitting our camper. They were throwing rocks at our camper. Throwing boomerangs again and hitting our vehicle and not one thing was said. We tried to ask them to stop and they would go running away and not address anything and of course no parents were there. We will not be coming back to this park next year. It has really gone down hill and it is so sad.
*as we left we stopped and let the DNR know and are awaiting a phone call from the park ranger as the front desk said we should have just called the police and talked to them more. They also said they took out the accessible seating a while ago. Still makes me frustrated when I have a child with special needs and the bathroom that was available didn’t have the accommodation anymore and they all were not cleaned as they used to be.
We had a good spot that was a little more secluded.
It wasn’t very busy when we went which was good. A lot of the sites were on the water. But those book up fast. The bathrooms and showers are maintained very good. There’s a cute trail off the state park. The trail is about .34 miles long but is a super easy walk.
Beautiful campground with lots of amenities. Shower house with bathrooms and a dishwashing station, water access throughout the campground, and electric hook-up at tent sites. Gorgeous beach with lots of rocks for rock hounding and sand for the kids to play in. Dumpsters to throw away garbage. A firewood vending machine. Over Memorial Day weekend, they had activities for the kids and handed out activity books with info about Michigan’s nature.
The campsite was at an incline but they warned about that when booking.
There is a grassy area for sports or gatherings, a gazebo with lots of picnic tables, and in the campsite itself they had an area for corn hole and horse shoes.
The only downside I found was the long walk to the bathhouse, so be mindful when booking where your site is as it’s the only bathroom for the entire campground.
100% would visit again!
Stayed on beach front site 77 for Memorial Day weekend. This site is the last site in the row before the restrooms. The traffic was a bit more than we prefer, but the beach front was worth it. The weather was chilly, but the rock hunting was plentiful, and the lake views were beautiful! Restrooms are well kept, and campground hosts were very friendly and gave all of the camping dog treats! We will be cleaning sand out of the camper for the rest of the summer, but we’ll worth it! Only minor complaint would be the rain water from the restroom parking lot drained onto our site and down the walkway to the beach.
