Nestled in Wellston, the Crystal Lake Swimming Area is a beautiful destination ideal for families and individuals seeking a relaxing day by the water. While primarily celebrated for its scenic sandy beach, clean swimming area, and accessible amenities, please note this location is not a traditional dog park. In fact, pets are not allowed on the beach. However, visitors will find well-maintained barbecue grills, picnic tables, public restrooms, playground equipment, swings, and grassy areas—making it a great spot for community gatherings and children’s play.
Crystal Lake Swimming Area stands out as one of the best public parks in Wellston, with wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking. Families can enjoy the beach and dock, fishing spots, a basketball court, and shady areas to relax. While the swimming area is popular during summer and perfect for family fun, it is not a pet-friendly destination, nor are there facilities dedicated to off-leash or on-leash dog activities. For those searching for a dog park in Wellston, you may want to consider other local pet-friendly parks or trails.
Really great swimming area. The beach is really nice and the swimming area is also pretty weed free, at least on one side.
The young teens can get pretty rowdy on the dock messing around and pushing each other in, but I’ve not seen anything too crazy. Just be cautious about young kids on the dock when it’s really busy. It’s also pretty deep at the end of the dock, great for jumping in.
Great place to relax, during the week not usually busy
ORIGINAL REVIEW:If you’re in the area, this is a destination you’re sure to not leave disappointed. My husband grew up visiting his grandparents who lived in the community that surrounds this park. We stopped for a few moments to allow him to soak up the nostalgia originally thinking we wouldn’t want to stay. I’ll be honest, we didn’t have time to stay that time….but we’ve already began planning our next family vacation and we added this to our itinerary forva whole day! Changing area, clean bathrooms, playground, sand, wonderful swimming, close to many good places to eat!
UPDATE: We returned again this year and spent the better part of the day at Crystal Lake! The water was the perfect temperature to leave us refreshed after a few days of rustic camping at Reedsburg Dam. The kids and my husband and I enjoyed jumping off the “T” shaped dock. The lake bottom was so sandy and not unpleasant to walk on at all. It was not over crowded. My oldest son caught a few fish on the other side of the lake. He was also fortunate enough to join in on a basketball game at the east side of the park. We will surely be returning again next year! We HIGHLY recommend Crystal Lake!
Fun place for kids and families or jus to hangout by urself and have a great view and some serenity
This is a fantastic little public, sandy beach, with a great jumping and diving dock.
Plenty of space for little kids to play and plenty of space for bigger kids and adults to swim. No lifeguard, no open/closed hours. Porta-potty available.
Swings and picnic benches in a grassy area above the beach. Pets not allowed on beach.
