Peterson Park is one of Northport’s hidden treasures, nestled in the heart of Leelanau County with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. This pet-friendly park stands out for dog owners seeking tranquil settings with a dose of adventure. With a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot, Peterson Park is inclusive for visitors of all mobility levels. Just steps from the parking lot, you can enjoy a scenic overlook and access to a beautiful, rocky beach—perfect for lakefront walks and beachcombing with your pup. The tall trees and ample green space provide relaxing shade and scenic picnic spots for both two-legged and four-legged visitors.
There are plenty of amenities for a family visit, including picnic tables, barbecue grills, and a large playground area for kids. While not a traditional fenced dog park, dogs are allowed on leash, making it an ideal spot for pet-friendly hiking and picnicking. Whether you’re searching for a peaceful spot to enjoy nature, a dog-friendly day out in Northport, or a rewarding climb down to Lake Michigan’s shoreline, Peterson Park offers a unique blend of recreational options for the whole family—including your canine companion.
One of the most remote and undiscovered parks in Leelanau county. It contains a long stairway down to a rock filled beach on lake Michigan.
An incredibly beautiful beach! There is an overlook with awe-inspiring views of Lake Michigan within feet of the parking lot, so it’s easily accessible for those who may be handicapped. The rock beach is a place you could spend hours beachcombing.
Beautiful small country park. The trees at the park are worth the trip. If you are planning on coming to the beach there are many stairs to get there. The park has a lot of tables and grills. It also features a overlook and playground. Would recommend visiting.
This park was named for my great-great-great grandfather, who’s daughter gave the land to the county after his death. He also built our house with his brother. This is an amazing park with a amazing and beautiful beach and a great playground, rich with history
It’s a great place to go hangout, very peaceful and great views. If you love rock hunting like me, it’s also a great spot for that as well! Just watch out for the rock spiders lol!
