The Highlands Sensory Trailhead offers beautiful, natural trails perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and those seeking a dog-friendly hiking spot in Rochester Hills. This park is well-known for its idyllic fields, gentle walking paths, and wildlife sightings, making each visit a unique experience. The soft trails are comfortable for walking—some reviewers mention hiking barefoot!—and the park’s environment is peaceful, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy birdsong and scenic nature.
While dogs are allowed on the property according to general descriptions, reviews have flagged that some signs at the trailhead state “No Pets,” so visitors should check on-site rules before bringing their dogs onto the trails. The park is wheelchair accessible and provides activities for kids, making it a great family destination. Parking is available, but there may not be a separate fenced dog area or amenities like water fountains or seating. Always come prepared for changing trail conditions, especially muddy spots after rain, and be attentive to both the wildlife and the cleanliness of the park.
Rather buggy today but the fields and water were so idyllic!
Fun local trail to walk an enjoy with the kids
Drove all the way out here only to be greeted by a sign that said No Bikes NO PETS. Trail is NOT dog-friendly!! Boo!
Kid-friendly trails that were soft enough to go barefoot! Peaceful and full of life. Mockingbirds chirped back whenever we called them. It was SO nice. My only complaint is that I couldn’t seem to find a map or anything on the paths or website.
This place was exceptional. I had a really pleasant Memorial Day and what a way to remember the people that gave their lives who served in our military. There are animals around so be alert. I came across two herds of deer and I did come across one snake, but it was only a couple of feet long and immediately slithered away from my direction. There are also some very soft spots on the property so wear the correct attire (boots, pants, hat, etc.) Also, if you see garbage on the ground, just pick it up. You’ll get to a garbage can at some point. Keep it clean and beautiful for others to enjoy!
