If you’re searching for a dog-friendly hiking spot near Stevensville, Grand Mere State Park offers a unique blend of scenic dune walks, wooded trails, and access to the stunning Lake Michigan shoreline. This rustic state park features miles of pet-friendly trails perfect for adventurous pups and their humans. While there’s no traditional fenced-in dog park, well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome to join you on hikes and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings.
Grand Mere State Park stands out for its challenging dune climbs—some of the largest in the area—and its secluded, nearly empty beach. Visitors enjoy picnic areas, public restrooms, and kid-friendly amenities. Accessibility features include a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, though getting to the beach and dunes may be difficult for those with limited mobility. Bring plenty of water, bug spray, and be prepared for a hike if you plan to make it all the way to Lake Michigan!
They should warn visitors how far it is and the two humongous dunes you have to climb over to get to the water. Otherwise beautiful
Absolutely love it here. If you want a fun dune or two to climb this is the place. And man are they big!!!! We Love Lake Michigan also
Stumbled upon this gem looking for a different beach. It’s a nice hike through the woods and over the dunes, probably a mile and a half to the beach. Well worth the hike! I felt like I was miles from anywhere!
Beautiful rustic park with timeless dunes and an empty beach. A 1.5 mile hike from Willow Drive or park on Wishart Road for easier access. You will still need to follow the tree red marked trail and climb a dune but the hike is worth it.
Somewhat secluded beach and beautiful nature trail. Saw a few turtles along the way and the turtle tracks in the sand were neat to see. Be prepared for a hike through some dunes. If you can do the hike, it is definitely worth it. We went later in the day and the bugs were after us, maybe plan to bring some bug spray. The sand gets HOT so be prepared for that. Overall, definitely recommend coming if you can.
