The lady reviewing applications was friendly. However the dog handler was not the right for my family. My adult son and 7 year old granddaughter came with me. First time looking at a shelter, I’ve gone to adoption events before. My granddaughter was excited. There was a dog being brought inside. The handler explained dog was shy and she would need to be calm . My granddaughter did as asked and instructed. Our dog handler seen this interaction. We told her 2 we would like to see. She brought in an excited puppy first ,that went all over and excited my granddaughter. Then she brought in the other dog who was usually timid. The dog approached my son and then came right over to me and up into my face. The handler commented this wasn’t his usual shy behavior. Then said my granddaughter was to hyper for him. She said he wouldn’t be a good fit for my family. Given time I know my granddaughter could calm down. Suggestion next time start with shy calmer dogs and work up to hyper. Also couldn’t take any dogs outside as the yard was being used. My granddaughter was around my two pit bulls and one is a mastiff mix her whole life. She’s always been excited and played but when my angel Tazz came down with bone cancer she was 5 and she understood the importance of being calm and careful with him in his condition. She doesn’t live with us but is there alot and I want her to be able to bond with a new dog just as she has my other 2 rescues. She left crying thinking it was her fault we weren’t allowed to adopt. She was like that for a week. She would randomly cry saying it was her fault that her Bear wouldn’t have a brother to play with ever again as our boy Tazz passed 2 years ago. She said things like next time don’t bring me or you won’t be able to adopt. I will not go back to a place where my granddaughter us made to feel this way. I will consider other shelters. My previous two rescues were from ICAC but not this time.
I called about a sweet little female pit tied to a tree in a city park. I told them she had no food no water or shelter. They assured me they would go pick her up. I found out today she died under that tree scared and alone. If I had known they weren’t gonna help I would’ve pulled up at night and grabbed her, even though I already have dogs. But I believed them. I will never call them for anything, they need to be investigated, they get money but do nothing. Then a few years back we were attacked by the neighbors dogs, she gave them right back.The house had no lights or water, and they were cooking meth. So here’s an update the guy died from an overdose and out of ten dogs only two are alive. She was so busy grinning in his face that she didn’t do her job. You guys are mean and cruel ppl. I feel sorry for any animal that has to depend on you for care.
I rescued a sweet guy and fell in love with him immediately. Soon found out that he is extremely aggressive towards other dogs. Not people. No matter what I tried nothing is working. I called here and asked for help and could he be rehomed. No, she tells me he would be put down because he was returned before! I should have been told about his behavior before I even looked at him!
I have 10 days to surrender him because my neighbors don’t like him which I understand but I’ve had him 6 months and I’m attached to him.my apartment management said I have 10 days or I might be evicted . I have no idea what to do. Other than this dog flaw, he is as cuddly and affectionate with no problems.
10/10 experience with this shelter. I can’t even explain how quick Honey(adopted as Meredith) became a part of our family. We fostered Honey (Meredith) for a week while she was waiting to be fixed to see if there was gonna be good chemistry with our cat and she won everyone’s heart immediately. They are now best friends! The staff was amazing through the whole process and made sure we were set up with a healthy dog, on a healthy diet and fixed, all before adoption.
