🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Located in the heart of the Huron National Forest, Gabions Campground and Day Use is a welcoming outdoor destination for dog owners and their furry companions. This dog park in Curran, MI, offers pet-friendly hiking trails, scenic picnic spots overlooking the Au Sable River, and the natural beauty of Michigan’s woodlands. With no day-use fees and onsite parking, it’s easy for visitors to access the park and explore the area with their dogs.
The campground features picnic tables, well-maintained outhouses, and several tent sites, making it a great spot for a day trip or weekend camping adventure with your pet. Dogs are allowed on the trails and throughout the campground, giving you ample opportunity to enjoy dog-friendly hiking and outdoor fun. While ticks and bugs can be prevalent, especially during warmer months, prepared visitors will find Gabions a peaceful retreat with plenty of shade and natural scenery.
Have been going there now for 40 years. Beautiful views, well kept outhouse
Don’t camp here unless you want to deal with a bunch of crazy drunks who blare obnoxious metal music all night long. Definitely NOT family friendly.
I only just learned that “bugs, quiet and outhouse” were all code words. Sorry folks but I’m happily married.
Stopped here for lunch during a kayaking trip. The kayak access area is less ideal than some others along this part of the Au Sable (there’s nowhere to secure your boat in the water, unless you have an anchor, so you have to drag it up a hill to secure it), but once you get on land, there’s a picnic table overlooking the water that provides a fine view. I came back later in the day to do some hiking on the shore-to-shore trail (there’s a couple places to meet up with it in this campground, just look for the blue blazes). It’s a NULL fee for day use, and then limited places to park. We found an area with a couple camp sites and space for extra cars and parked there. The trail in this area is overgrown, so ticks are a problem as well as small downed limbs, but it’s a nice little walk if you’re prepared for them.
Love this place. Favorite campsite in the Huron national Forest. Been here 3 times in last 2 years. Bugs can be bad though. Be prepared with bug spray!
