Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for a scenic dog park in Kalamazoo where both people and pups can enjoy the great outdoors, McLinden Nature Trails is a must-visit. This pet-friendly park boasts beautiful hiking trails surrounded by mature elm and Douglas firs, making it perfect for nature lovers and dog owners alike. The trails loop through peaceful woodland areas, offer a mix of hilly and flat terrain, and provide excellent views of water, bird life, and local wildlife.
Dogs are welcome throughout the park, and the extensive trail network ensures that both small and large breeds will have plenty to explore. Families will also appreciate the kid-friendly hikes and ample open space. With a large parking lot and marked trails (including a convenient map QR code), it’s easy to access and navigate this relaxing natural area.
One of our favorite trails to walk! It has two loops to choose from. And such beautiful views!
I’m disappointed that the best trail in the preserve is now closed off… something about it being private property???! It’s the trail that goes up a bluff for a beautiful view of the lake and it also approaches the lake, where one can see signs of beaver and a closer up view to see other wildlife.
Very nice short loop after the lead in trail with hills and pine trees and a couple cool areas overlooking the water. The remote area was enough for some peaceful quiet in the winter air. Yes there was a surprising amount of doggo bombs that people don’t even bother to push off the trail but mainly confined to the trail in to the loop.
Mature elm and Douglas fir, abundant trees and abundant bird life. Some parts of trail need maintenance, and there are fallen trees, but pretty nonetheless.
Beautiful area to hike and enjoy nature. Lots of walking trails, saw and heard lots of birds, saw a rabbit, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and explored this place. Definitely worth a visit.
Trails were marked and there is a map qr code, but I still got turned around. There are lots of older trails/animal trails that people have walked enough that I inadvertently took a trail that’s not a trail, which is obviously not ideal from a habitat consideration standpoint. If you stay on trails that are fairly wide that seems to be the ones they want in use.
The parking lot is large and has lots of room.
Only saw two other hikers on the trails, a peaceful and relaxing place to hike.
Will be back for sure ❤️
