Discover one of the most popular dog-friendly hiking destinations in Michigan – the Macomb Orchard Trail – Richmond Trailhead. This scenic, well-maintained trail spans 23 miles through charming towns and open fields, offering beautiful, flat, and wide blacktop paths that are perfect for pet-friendly walks and outdoor adventures. With ample parking, wheelchair-accessible amenities, paved paths, and public restrooms available at the trailhead, it’s a fantastic option for dog owners seeking an accessible and convenient spot for walking, biking, or jogging with their furry companions.
This trail is known for its peaceful atmosphere, great accessibility, and friendly visitors. You’ll find a welcoming pavilion with shelter and bathrooms as well as kid-friendly features and plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature with your pet. While there isn’t a traditional fenced dog park, leashed dogs can explore the trail alongside you, making it a top choice for dog owners looking for pet-friendly trails in Richmond or relaxing walks with their pups.
Very peaceful trail goes on for miles and miles. Places to stop and enjoy the scenery along the way friendly people on the trail always move over and allow others to go through
A nice long round trip
Well maintained trail for walking or biking that goes through towns and Open Fields. Straight and flat overall. Blacktop and wide. I’ve done a 30 mile round trip but you can do much less and much more if you choose. If you start in Richmond as we did, there is rarely any worry about parking and there are restrooms at the beginning of the trail
MOT is a great walking/cycling trail that is well maintained. There are infrequent road crossings which make this an excellent trail for long rides.
The “end” of the Macomb Orchard Trail. We like to start our ride here though since it’s much closer to us and direction doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of parking at the high school across the street and a pavilion with bathrooms here as well. Beautiful trail that runs for 23 miles through Armada and Romeo and begins near Stony Creek.
