Waterfall Loop Trail in Dearborn is a pet-friendly destination perfect for dog owners who love getting outdoors. This scenic loop offers beautiful views of the waterfall and the historic Fairlane estate, providing a tranquil setting surrounded by abundant trees and waterways. It’s a popular local spot for dog walking, hiking, and enjoying a peaceful, shaded environment, especially during the cooler months when fall colors make the trail even more picturesque.
The trail is well-suited for families and is considered kid-friendly, making it a great choice for a group outing or a casual walk with your furry friend. Features like shady spots from mature trees and multiple bridges across the water add to the charm, though visitors should note some sections may be overgrown or under construction. Be sure to bring plenty of water for you and your pet, and wear appropriate footwear during winter for icy patches. Whether you’re looking for a new dog park in Dearborn or seeking a relaxing, dog-friendly hiking experience close to home, Waterfall Loop Trail is worth exploring.
Tried to take the Rouge Gateway trail over the bridge to connect to the Waterfall Loop Trail (near the estate). You can get to the estate and waterfall view quite easily taking this path, and it’s a nice little spot for a very quick walk.
Unfortunately, it looks like any further section of the loop trail on this side is unmaintained. There’s no clear markings, substantial overgrowth, and several downed trees. I tried going forward through these things, but at one point it was so unclear where the path was supposed to be I felt I had to turn back with my dog. I wasn’t too far in from the estate view, so I’m not sure if it eventually clears up (if you navigate with Google maps or something for a bit).
The views of the waterfall and Fairlane are amazing. The trails are under construction right now, and the connector trails are overgrown and barely passable. The river and banks are loaded with trash.
Guys if you are feeling bad that you couldn’t go to UP to see fall colors. Take a hike of this waterfall loop and you won’t be missing out much. Really quite, wild and scenic walk.
Needs ice cleats on the trails.
So relaxing and beautiful I love this trail love all the trees. Highly recommend to go for a walk, bike ride, dog walking etc. make sure to bring cold water and you will be okay. Plenty of shade and trees so it stays cool. Love the bridges and water. I adore this trail so much.
