Wilderness Park Trout Creek Site – Dog-Friendly Hiking in Thonotosassa, Florida

Wilderness Park Trout Creek Site is a scenic natural spot in Thonotosassa, FL, well-loved by dog owners for its miles of pet-friendly hiking and biking trails that wind through the beautiful Florida wilderness. While not a traditional fenced dog park, leashed dogs are welcome throughout the various trails, making it a great destination for those looking to explore nature alongside their four-legged friends. The extensive system includes lakeside trails with views of the Hillsborough River, lush pavilions, and opportunities to spot wildlife such as deer, rabbits, turtles, and armadillos.

This dog-friendly park provides practical amenities for pet owners, including waste bag stations and plenty of parking. Several picnic pavilions offer spots to rest, but be mindful that shade is primarily provided by the native tree canopy rather than built shelters. Pro tip, left is bike trail, right is hiking trails 😄 we accidentally went left, but still enjoyed the bike trail There are def ticks present, so do NOT wander into grass and check yourself and your pets. The boardwalk is short, but nice. You can watch a number of alligators swimming and floating by which I loved. Dogs can’t go on boardwalk, but trails are fine. Small boat and kayak launch. well maintained. Bathroom was spotless.

Beautiful beautiful hidden gem. The trails are so nice. Find Bayshore trail it goes around a lake. Keep eyes open trail can have stumps and of course wildlife. I’ve seen rabbits, deer, turtles and armadillos. Wish it was marked better. But ranger told me if you stay on trails at Trout Creek you won’t get lost. Across the street at the other park you can get very lost. I take my dog and walk through the trails only. But they have bicyclists and watch for them. Everyone is always nice. Really all our wilderness parks are beautiful. Check out Lettuce Lake down the street on Fletcher. Enjoy and please don’t liter. I always pick up any trash on my hike.

Parking is two dollars for the day, there’s a good amount of parking
Lots of trails, with varying elevation
I really liked the location and the lack of people on the trails
Dog, friendly, there’s a dog station with poop bags
And there’s also lots of pavilions

This park is known for their biking trails. Located off Morris Bridge Road, you can access the Biking trail that spans for several miles. There’s also a place or fish off the boardwalk. This also contains views of the Hillsborough River.

For hikers, this is a spot that has views of the power lines and lake. The only thing good to see was the massive lake; and that’s about it. Otherwise, the trails are not well-marked and the maps at the entrance don’t help at all. However, this place is alright if you want to immerse yourself in nature. Overall, don’t recommend.

Nice section of the greater Flatwoods.

Some of the trails can prove difficult to some so be mindful. Also, make sure you are and stay hydrated and of course DO NOT LITTER! NONE of that garbage was there when you arrived so please pick it up and dispose it in the designated areas.

Lots of nature frames to snap pics of, as well as wildlife. Remember to NOT feed them and stay vigilant in tight trails.

NOTE: As of May, the parking machine to obtain your NULL parking ticket is NOT working properly, so you most likely will be parking for free as you can see in the video I uploaded.
