This fully fenced dog park is operated by the City of Athens and is popular among both local residents and visitors looking for a generous space where dogs can run free. Converted from a former baseball field, the park boasts wide open areas perfect for play, making it a unique treat for dogs craving plenty of off-leash exercise. Wish it wasn’t going to be closed down soon. The new ones are no where near the size of this one.

**edit** I just noticed after writing my review that the listed hours of operation seem to be incorrect. Open hours are 7 days a week, dawn to dusk.

BIG, no cost, partially secluded dog park operated by the City of Athens just a couple hundred yards off the main drag. Well maintained – used to be a baseball field – also has a water tap inside the fenced area. Has a small shelter house, a few dog obstacles and appropriate seating for fur-baby parents.

It missed my 5 star mark because it lacks adequate shade. A few well placed mature maple trees would make this one of the best dog parks in the State (maybe even the nation).

Best visiting on a cloudy day during the hot summer months – all other months, me and pups think it’s PERFECT!

Great place for us to hang out and let the puppers run free!

Wide open space, fenced in, doggie pool. Nice place and clean. They had large rocks and concrete drainage tube to play in, on or to get out of the sun. Sitting area for humans.

Compared to other dog parks I’ve seen around the US, this one is just fine. First, it is free and there is no expectation you pay or register…just come any time you want. It is fully, properly fenced, and has a shade shelter, adequate benches, and plumbed running water. It is an old baseball field so there is lots of space for the dogs to run around in. Patrons are usually good about picking up the poop so, unlike the Athens West State Street Dog Park, you don’t see that stuff laying around as often. It can be hot here in the summer, and chilling in the winter, because it lacks any nice shade trees. But it is very convenient to the Athens Far East Side, so I often bring the dog on trips that include Kroger, Walmart, etc. A very nice facility for resident or visiting dog owners. Just turn to the South at the stoplight by CVS, and follow the road down and around, and you’re there.
