Higgins Lake Beach is a popular destination for families and pet owners seeking a scenic spot near Roscommon, Michigan. Known for its clear water, sandy shores, and wheelchair accessibility, this park offers plenty of space for dog-friendly activities and pet-friendly trails. The natural spring that runs into Higgins Lake keeps the water cool and inviting, making it perfect for both humans and their furry companions to enjoy swimming and wading. Convenient features like picnic tables, public restrooms, and playground equipment make it a spot the whole family can enjoy.
Pet owners appreciate the accessibility of the park, with clean restrooms (except during peak crowds), rinse-off stations, and shaded areas set back from the water’s edge. While not exclusively a dog park, the area is known for being welcoming to dogs and offers room to walk, swim, and play. However, visitors should note that the park can get busy on weekends and holidays, so early arrival is recommended for the best parking and beach access.
Water is beautiful and can walk pretty far before it gets deep.. Natural spring runs into it from what I was told seems pretty cool place there is a area 4 bets
Good place. Clear water, good food, nice location.
We loved swimming here with our littles. Nice size sandy beach, even some areas with shade a little further back from the water. A few swings and slide. Parking was good during the morning but quite busy when we left but it was a holiday weekend. The bathrooms were clean and area to get the sand off came in handy. Definitely will be back!
Wonderful state park very clean beaches and clean restrooms as well. There are also vending machines for snacks and refreshments. On select days there is a food trailer that’s does a pretty good barbecue!
I don’t know what these other reviewers are talking about. Maybe this used to be a nicer beach, but as of June 4th, 2024, this beach is disgusting! The beach has dead fish washed up on it and I even saw a dead rat! I included photos with this review because I’m still in shock. Sticks, leftover food (piece of lime?), all sorts of trash everywhere. And too many flies & mosquitoes! Crazy! This “beach” is tiny too, so for how small it is, it’s amazing how filthy it is. Never coming back here! Oh, and algae blooms are floating along the shore, not always a sign of an unhealthy lake, but obviously the case here. Yuck. Dead rats! Nasty! By the way the bathrooms? Yeah, you guessed it: disgusting!
