🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Washington Lake Park, located in Sewell, New Jersey, is known as Jersey’s largest municipal park and features scenic views, well-maintained trails, and plenty of green space for outdoor recreation. While the broader park is popular with families and fitness enthusiasts, it’s important to note that dogs are generally not allowed throughout the entire park; instead, there is a specific dog run area. Non-residents must apply for a permit to access the dog run, and up-to-date dog licenses are required for all visitors.
The park is recognized for its clean spaces, picnic areas, playgrounds for kids, restrooms, and accessible paths suitable for those needing assistance. While experiences may vary and some dog owners have noted restrictions and limited pet areas, Washington Lake Park does provide a designated section where pets can be welcomed under certain rules. It’s always a good idea to check the latest regulations before visiting with your dog.
This is one of my favorite parks. It was always clean and well kept. I really enjoy the events that they hold. It’s a great park that not only children enjoy but adults do too.
Great public park. My wife and I have been here twice. There’s one pathway that has exercise spots every few hundred meters or so. I wish there was a public park like this closer to my house.
The park was clean, safe and well maintained. The kids had had fun and there was enough playground rides for all of the children. The picnic area was clean too. Very enjoyable area. Restrooms were nearby and easy access to them. Dogs are not allowed which could be a bummer, but it’s understandable because of those who fail to pick up after thier pet.
Review by a Mt Laurel resident. Bought a new car in the area last week, and recently drove by the park. Thought it would be a great idea to enjoy a beautiful day in this park with my dog, since it is Jersey’s largest municipal park. Wrong decision since this park doesnt allow dogs, and their dog park requires non-residents to apply for a dog permit in their dog run. Mount Laurel and neighboring towns by me doesn’t require that. They only require an up to date dog license, no fees and registration with the township. In addition, the township’s park map on their website is out-dated. See attachment to this review. Per the attached map, I walked around the park, and went towards the dog park to find it overly grown and closed. We actually didn’t find out that the park is not dog friendly and about the small dog friendly section of the park until an employee in a 4-wheeler informed us that the park is not dog friendly and the park rangers will give out tickets and pointer us to the smaller side of the park. Never heard of a large municipal park where it doesn’t allow dogs, and where only a small section of the park allows dogs. Hope Washington Township will reconsider the dog ordinances. Will not be attending this park again, and hope the township will clean up their old abandoned dog park, create a new map on their website.
Its nice park with a lot of nice view and trails. Its accessible if you would like to take someone who needs assistance. Fresh air and lots of ducks around . Make sure you be carefully because there are some bushes that made my feet itch. Have fun and chevk out the pictures .
